Tradition

Since 1962 Northwood Elementary has been providing a well-rounded curriculum to its students in an environment of school pride, community spirit and partnership with parents.  We have many Northwood alumni who return as parents and are thrilled that the elementary school they fondly remember is still delivering academic excellence while nurturing children mind, body and spirit

Of course, some things have changed.  Today’s Northwood students use technology in the classroom  and computer lab on a daily basis. Their teachers project multimedia lessons using digital document cameras and parents can access up-to-the minute information on our school website and social media  We have successfully preserved the best of the past while moving ahead to prepare students for the future.

Enrichment

At Northwood we are committed to going beyond the basics for all students.  In addition to a rigorous curriculum aligned to the Common Core standards in math and language arts, we offer enrichment classes with specialist teachers including visual arts, PE, choral music, and band & strings. We have PFC funded music and art teachers, a library/media center, and a beautiful garden. Students also have many opportunities throughout the year to participate in special activities such as Outdoor Education, Jogathon, Battle of the Books, Holiday Performances, Community Service Club, Field Trips, Hands on Assemblies, Leadership, and more. Afterschool programs include Cool School for grades 1-5, Girls on the Run, and NVUSD childcare for TK & Kindergarten.

Community

At the heart of Northwood’s success is the collaboration between school and home. Our Parent Faculty Club is an active, well-organized team which facilitates three major fundraisers yearly and dozens of events to support learning and build school spirit. We have many dedicated volunteers during the school day as well as at our various events. Please check out how you can get involved by visiting our Parent Involvement page. Remember, you don't have to be a parent to be a volunteer!

For parents with an interest in school governance and budget advising, we have a School Site Council with an elected panel.

All parents are welcome to attend meetings and agendas are always posted in the office ahead of time.
