Parent Involvement

We love parent volunteers

Not everyone can be a teacher, but anyone can be a volunteer! Whether you are a parent, guardian, grandparent, aunt, uncle, friend, or simply a member of our community, we are always looking for volunteers to help out in different ways throughout the school year.

All parents of Northwood Elementary School students are members of our PFC. There is no membership fee. Board meetings are held monthly and all are invited to attend. General meetings are held in the fall at Back to School Night and at the end of the year. The PFC organizes many activities for NES students and runs three major fundraisers during the year: jogathon, readathon, Twilight auction.

Attention Fabulous Northwood Families!

Have you ever thought about how wonderful our little school is to be able to provide so many extra opportunities for our kids? Our Art teacher, PE teacher, STEM teacher, Missoula Children’s Theater, Family Movie Night, Spring Carnival, after-school enrichment classes and so much more make Eagle Country a very special place to learn and grow. We wouldn’t be able to offer any of these experiences without all of your hard work raising money through our school fundraisers. These fundraisers are all put on by our wonderful Parent Faculty Club (PFC). None of this would be possible without them. Here is where you come in...

We aren’t asking for one or two people to take on everything; we need several parents so that each “job” is a committee of parents: a team. I personally know that stepping up to the plate can be intimidating, but I assure you that given the time and guidance along with help from others, no job will be too much to handle. I encourage you to please attend our next PFC meeting, ask your questions, don’t be shy.

If you have any questions that I may be able to help answer you can contact me (email below) and if I don’t already have the answer I will find the answer for you. Join our village; we look forward to speaking
with you.

Parent Volunteer Coordinator

Northwood is always in need of volunteers for events throughout the school year. Here are just a few:

  • Campus Cleanup
  • Carnival
  • Field Day
  • Twilight in the Vineyards
  • Jog-a-thon

Please contact Amy Cleveland if you are interested in volunteering!

One of the best ways you can support your child’s immediate learning environment is by helping his or her teacher within the classroom. Responsibilities vary from classroom to classroom, but typically center on being a point person for the teacher. Examples might include: helping with Tuesday folders, arranging class activities and parties, checking homework, assisting with field trips, organizing supplies, etc.

This is a good role for someone who likes to be in touch with the teacher and the classroom. It involves some checking in with teachers (usually before or after school) and occasional follow up with fellow class families.

Parents can help in the library by providing reading enrichment experiences, shelving books, straightening shelves, or helping put up library displays. Additionally, you can support Northwood's Scholastic Book Fair by helping set up, tear down and assist students with their selections and purchases. For more information about volunteering in the library, please send an email to our school librarian Lara Dooley.

Yard Duty

Do you have a free hour in the afternoon? We are looking for volunteers to help supervise students during our lunch recess. This is a great opportunity for you to enjoy some fresh air, interact with the kids, and help create a safe and welcoming environment for them to play. You make your own schedule and come on days you're available. Please contact the school front office for details.

Crosswalk Supervision

We would love to have an adult at our crosswalks both before and after school to assist children and families and ensure everyone gets to school safely. We have the stop signs and safety vests; all you need is a smile and some free time! We are looking for both morning and afternoon assistance. Please stop by the front office if you are interested.

The School Site Council is made up of elected parents, teachers, and other staff. Its role is to manage and monitor progress on the School Based Coordinated Plan and to oversee the use of School Improvement funds. The council meets monthly. All interested parents and staff are invited to attend.

Join our team of volunteers and help make a difference!

Every little bit helps, and there is something for every interest and level of participation.  Volunteering is a great way to get involved, develop a closer relationship with your child and establish friendships. You may help out in the classroom in a variety of ways, in the office, or by helping with PFC activities. Volunteers are needed throughout the school year and especially at fundraising events. Being active in whatever way suits your talents and time sends a powerful message to your child that school is important to you!
